This Month

Delightful May! Time to enjoy the garden’s classic perennials: Epimedium, Woodland Phlox, Solomon’s Seal Bleeding Heart. Here in the northeast we’re running a deficit with rainfall, and if this is happening in your area, it’s important to irrigate to sustain springtime’s surge of growth. You may want to scratch in some organic fertilizers before a good soaking, then watch your garden take off.

Listen to the forecasts for late spring frosts, and cover tender growth with tarps if you here the temps are going to flirt with freezing. Remember that heat loving annuals and tropical should not be planted out until the soil is warm and the nights stay above 55 degrees… The old timers always waited until after Memorial Day.
