If you are coming a distance, why not plan to spend a day in the history-rich New Bedford area. Here are a few suggestions to check out: Haskell Public Garden is 10 minutes away. Once the nursery home and gardens of our old friend Allen Haskell, it is now a lovely public garden open year round and there is no entrance fee!
The Acushnet River Antique Center is a regular haunt…we find some pretty cool garden artifacts here.
Historic downtown New Bedford is home to the impressive Whaling Museum, plus some great little shops and restaurants. Check out The Drawing Room, which features unique gifts, wine and local art. Our restaurant go to’s are The Black Whale on the waterfront, Union Flats, Cultivator Shoals, DNB Burgers and The Pour Farm Tavern to name a few.
If you want to get in a nice brisk hike, Fort Taber at the city’s southernmost tip, offers walks with views of Buzzards Bay. Nearby are 2 eating establishments Cisco Brewery and The Dough Company.
