Butterfly Attracting Perennials

Acanthus hungaricus

Bear's Breeches
Gorgeous spires of lavender/white flowers in early summer, this is a hardier species than A. molls. and well with growing in hot, well drained sunny areas. Bold slightly glossy dark green foliage s a little less prickly looking than A. spinosa, with which it is often confused. Plants spread by underground running roots, and will form a nice thicket. Foliage height remains about 12-15", flowering stalks reach 32-40" tall in our southern New England climate.
