Description
A bold deer resistant shade tolerant perennial that is hardy in zones 7-9, Elk Clover (aka California Spikenard) has pinnate or bipinnate foliage up to 6′ long and 3′ wide. In late summer and autumn it gets white to pink flower orbs that are favored by pollinators which are then followed by showy black seed enjoyed by many mammals and birds. Plants can grow 6-10′ tall and adapt well to acid or neutral soils that have good drainage but with adequate moisutre in the growing season
