If one has the space, every cold climate gardener should have a witch hazel, whose winter blooms assure you that spring is not far away. ‘Jelena’, produces amber gold blossoms on bare wood by mid-late February (some years as early as January), carrying on through March. ‘Jelena’ has a fragrance that beckons honey bees when they venture out for winter cleansing flights. Plants can grow to 12′ tall and wide. Deer resistant.
