A northeastern US native selection from the Mt. Cuba Center, ‘Purple Flame’ Blue Flag breaks ground each spring with wonderful deep violet foliage, creating some dramatic color contrast.  The foliage gradually turns green with warmer temperatures, 2-3′ Stalks bearing beautiful violet blue flowers appear  in late spring and early summer. This is a plant that thrives in moist soil areas and pondside edges.
