If you have ever pulled into our parking lot in earlyJune, you may have noticed a tropical looking shrub/small tree with “ginormous” white blossoms. Magnolia ashei is a strain of Big Leaf Magnolia that some say has slightly bluer leaves and doesn’t get as tall as the species, but eventually can reach 20′. It seems to be happiest in partial shade and out of strong wind. Big Leaf Magnolia has fragrance and blooms precociously…sometimes within a year or 2 of planting a small starter plant.
